Detroit Free Press Names Lighting Manufacturer as 2013 Michigan Green Leader

EverLast® Lighting Wins State Wide Award for Green Building Practices

JACKSON, MICHIGAN – May 28th, 2013 – For the fourth year in a row the Detroit Free Press recognized businesses, organizations and individuals working to make Michigan a greener, more environmentally sustainable state.  This year’s Detroit Free Press Green Leader honorees demonstrated exceptional efforts towards sustainability.

An independent panel of judges considered the nominations and gave preference to nominations that demonstrated a body of sustainable work that goes beyond one project or product. Categories include business (small, medium and large), nonprofits, public sector (such as government bodies, universities or school districts), individual, green building practices, automotive innovation and young leader age 25 or younger.  EverLast® Lighting was named in the “Green Building Practice” category as a 2013 Green Leader.

“The building is a huge statement because it practices the energy efficiency that the brand preaches by having so many “green” features,” commented Michael Nevins, CEO of EverLast® Lighting. Several of the building's "green" features include: geothermal heating and cooling; solar/wind powered hybrid parking lot lighting; recycled energy-efficient window glass; bamboo walls; pervious concrete that absorbs rainwater and filters it back through the watershed; daylighting controls; and solar tracking skylights that track the sun throughout the day to capture more of the suns usable light by reflecting light that would be otherwise lost when the sun is low in the horizon.  The 72,000 sq. ft. building completed in April of 2010 allowed EverLast® to begin manufacturing a variety of energy-efficient induction light fixtures.

In addition, the building was built on a Brownfield Redevelopment site which is unique and also rare because Brownfield sites are abandoned or underused industrial and commercial facilities available for re-use.  As a result, Michael Nevins received a business growth loan from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation in support of the construction of the building.

The previous EverLast® manufacturing facility was converted to a fabrication plant to manufacture fixture components.

The Detroit Free Press 2013 Michigan Green Leaders special print section about the winners will be published June 9, and the winners will be honored at an awards breakfast June 10 with retiring U.S. Sen. Carl Levin delivering the keynote address. U.S. Rep. John Dingell of Dearborn, who will become the longest-serving congressman in history on June 7, plans to attend the event hosted by the Detroit Economic Club at the Motor City Casino Hotel.

This year's Detroit Free Press Michigan Green Leaders honorees include Gage Products, DTE Energy, ACI Plastics, Morgan Composting, Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, Western Michigan University, and Roberta Urbani.

Campus Sustainability Initiative Rolls On After Forum Hosted at Michigan State University

EverLast® Lighting Continues Movement of Michigan Made Products, Lowered Energy Consumption Across College Campuses

JACKSON, MICHIGAN – May 16th, 2013 – April 20th, 2013 marked the launch of a Campus Sustainability Initiative lead by Michigan based company, EverLast® Lighting, Inc. as they visit collegiate campuses in Michigan throughout the year reinforcing the benefits of energy efficient induction lighting.  On April 18th, EverLast® participated in a “Conversation with the President on Energy and Economic Impact” at the Henry Center for Executive Development in Lansing, Michigan.  Lou Anna Simon, President of Michigan State University, Bruce Thompson, Vice President of Corporate Development for Rockford Construction, and Brandon Marken, Vice President of Sales at EverLast® Lighting, spoke about the effects of sustainable energy on Michigan State University’s campus.

MSU has utilized EverLast® Lighting in several areas on their vast campus, installing over 1,000 fixtures to date.  Installations have ranged from the East and West Recreational Campus buildings, and the Crop Science Building.  EverLast® Lighting, Inc., is a manufacturer of commercial lighting solutions for roadway, parking structure, facility and area lighting applications that have been utilized in various campuses across the country.  EverLast®'s state wide movement will increase awareness surrounding energy savings; improved campus safety and security, rebate awareness, economic growth, and Michigan made products.  EverLast® will be following the event with a ceremony at Jackson Community College in early June.  Congressman Tim Walberg will be attending the event to offer support of lowering energy consumption as part of a strategy to boost the educational sector.

Over the course of 2013, EverLast® will be participating in “awareness events” on several campuses in Michigan and partnering with a multitude other local companies bringing energy efficient solutions to the forefront.  Other organizations that are participating in EverLast®’s efforts are the Michigan Manufacturers Association, Lansing Chamber of Commerce, Jackson Chamber of Commerce, West Michigan Lighting, Gasser-Bush, and Jackson Community College.

In addition, Consumers Energy is getting in the fray, rolling out excellent rebate programs in place for the energy efficient solutions, such as the EverLast® fixtures. Their rebate policy and application is easily found on their website. Andersen Air Force Base Selects Induction Light Fixtures

EverLast® Lighting Exceeds Specification Standards, and Is Used In Military Lighting Upgrade

JACKSON, MICHIGAN – May 1st, 2013 – Andersen Air Force base, located in United States territory of Guam, is one of four Bomber Forward Operating Locations in the Air Force.  These locations provide forward support to bomber crews deploying overseas in Europe, Southwest Asia and in the Pacific.  As the U.S. Military is the single largest consumer of energy in the world, the base began searching for options to reduce energy consumption and immediately recognized lighting efficiency as the quickest means to do so.

In the summer of 2012, the U.S. Air Force cooperatively worked with GreenTech of Ventura and Kenclaire West of Fresno, California to seek out a commercial lighting solution that would meet their facility codes while improving illumination, and significantly lowering energy costs.  “GreenTech teaches our clients about actions their business can take to save money in areas of energy and lighting. We help discover financial resources, like rebates and grants to implement energy efficient lighting,” Dan Grumney, President of GreenTech.  “In our experience, we find military organizations often selecting EverLast® for installation based on warranty, lifespan, and the fact that the fixtures meet the "Buy American” requirement for the U.S. Military.”

When it came time to implement a high-efficiency street lighting initiative, officials at the base selected EverLast® street and area induction lights.  In late 2012, Andersen Air Force Base moved forward with the advanced lighting fixtures and replaced two hundred and fourteen 250 watt high pressure sodium fixtures with 150 watt EverLast® Daytona Cobra Head fixtures along the main roads of the base.  “The EverLast® Daytona Cobra Head is the ideal energy efficient roadway lighting solution that provides a more natural and high color rendition light quality unlike traditional high pressure sodium fixtures,” Grumney explained.

EverLast® induction light fixtures are 50-70% more energy efficient than metal halides and last up to 100,000 hours, making them virtually maintenance free for up to 15 years.  The induction lighting fixtures are also available with a dimmable option, providing even more energy savings while areas are vacant.  “The U.S. Government continues to select EverLast® because we meet, and exceed the U.S. Made requirements,” explained Bryan Schultz, Regional Sales Manager of EverLast® Lighting, Inc.  “We’ve also been able to reduce energy consumption at other military bases such as Fort Drum in New York, and Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.”
